Golfers Finish 4th of 18 teams in the Purple Cancer Invite at Arbor Hills
Friday, the Northwest Boys’ Golf Team competed in the first annual Purple Golf Invitational to support the local American Cancer Society hosted by East Jackson High School at Arbor Hills Golf Course. The Mounties placed 4th behind the #1 State Ranked Division 3 and 4 Teams in Lumen Christi and Kalamazoo Hackett as well as a very good Division 1 team in Dexter. The Tournament Individual Champion was Cayden Staib, a senior from Adrian High School who fired a 3-under par round of 69.
The Mounties were led by juniors, Cody Rowe and Jake Brafford, posting 73 and 74 respectively. Those were good for a tie for 4th and 6th places individually earning medals. Fellow junior, Jarrett Osterberg bested his personal low 18 hole round score by one carding an 82. Mason Beecher came in with 96 to finish the team score of 325. Sullivan Mohlman played as an individual for this tournament and scored 91 also playing well.
“Getting the opportunity to play with these highly ranked teams and the skill levels that they demonstrated was really a good experience for our kids, especially the guys that haven’t played at this level until this year.” said Coach Cantlin. “Cody and Jake don’t often play with other golfers that truly match up with their skills. It was really fun to watch all these guys compete playing really good high school golf.”
The Mounties play in three different varsity tournaments coming up. On Monday in the Lakeview Invitational at Cedar Creek GC. On Wednesday at Calderone GC in the East Jackson Invite and on Friday in the Matthew Krutsch Memorial Tournament at The Medalist to conclude a busy week of golf.
