Wind and Unfamiliar Course Provides Challenge for Golfers in Opening I-8 Jamboree at Binder Park Golf Club
The Northwest Boys’ Golf Team competed in the first I-8 Jamboree of the spring playing an unfamiliar course on a very windy day provided a challenge for the Mounties. They finished the day in 4th place overall in the point standing with a front nine score of 172 and a back nine score of 167. Host team, Harper Creek, bested the field by 20 strokes over all and taking 16 points on the day.
The Mounties were led by junior, Jake Brafford, who fired an even par round of 36 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine for 79. Junior, Cody Rowe, did not fare well on the front nine scoring a 45 but was able to finish with a 38 on the back nine for an 83. Sophomore, Sully Mohlman, played solid golf with 45 and 42 on his nines for an 87 and Riley Banks finished with a total of 93 to round out the scoring.
“Despite higher scores for each guy on one side or the other, there were some positives to take away,” said Coach, Martha Cantlin. “For the most part they were able to keep a positive attitude as they fought the elements and the course. Had we been able to take each guy’s low round for a team score we would have scored 160 for nine and that is a very good score.”
The Mounties don’t play again until next week with a full slate of events beginning Monday at Eaton Rapids. On Tuesday the varsity guys look to improve their conference point standing playing at Arbor Hills in the next I-8 Jamboree. The JV guys will play in the Jackson Area JV Invite on Wednesday.
