The Mountie Golfers Take Two at Tri-Match on Tuesday Firing a 154
The Northwest Golfers played their second away event in a row today at Devil’s Lake Golf Course in a Tri-Match with Onsted and Adrian Madison. They earned two wins firing a team score of 154. Onsted came in with a 178 while Madison finished with 187.
The Mounties were led by seniors Jarrett Osterberg and Jake Brafford each posting 37 which was a personal best for Osterberg. Cody Rowe carded a 39 to open the season and fellow senior Javen Palmer also posting a personal best round of 41 to score the Mounties.
“It was very good to get the season started successfully despite the frigid temperatures,” said Coach Martha Cantlin. “I loved that both Jarrett and Javen posted personal 9-hole bests as well.”
Golfers get Win Scrimmage Match over Mason 167-168
The Northwest Boys’ Golf Team played a 9-hole event at El Dorado GC on Wednesday posting a 167 and beating Mason who finished one stroke back at 168.
The Mounties were led by senior, Jake Brafford with a 2 over par round of 38. Cody Rowe was three strokes back with a 41. Seniors, Jarrett Osterberg and Javen Palmer finished the Mountie scoring with 43 and 45 respectively.
“The guys were not satisfied with their scores competing a second straight day and this time on a very different course and greens,” said Coach Cantlin, “Adjusting to the faster greens and the wind today played a role in the higher scores.”
The Junior Varsity Team also played both Mason. They came up short with a score of 207 while Mason posted 190. They JVs were led by senior, Mason Beecher with a 42. Senior, Gavin Thomas carded a 50 while junior, Devin Mollette came in with a 56. Freshman, Douglas Henry finished the JV team score with a 59.
Rowe & Brafford Lead Golfers at the Chilly Coldwater Invitational
The Northwest Golfers competed in the Coldwater Invitational Friday placing 5th in the 24-team field with a team score of 320.
The Mounties were paced by seniors, Cody Rowe and Jake Brafford tying for 4th place each with a 3 over par round of 75. Fellow seniors, Javen Palmer and Mason Beecher each posted 85 to complete the team score. For Palmer it was his second personal best of the week, this time for 18-holes besting an 89 he posted last spring.
“We scored 18 strokes lower than we did at this event last year and finished 4 places better which made it a good start to our tournament season.” Said Coach, Martha Cantlin. “Other than Jake the guys really struggled on the greens with a dozen 3 putts between then and all of them saying the could get a good feel on the damp greens.”
The Mounties play Monday in their only home match of the season competing with Eaton Rapids at 3:30 and on Tuesday they kick of the I-8 Conference competition at Marshall in the first Jamboree of the season.
