Mounties Battle Hard in Season Opener but Fall to Lumen Christi
The 7th grade boys A basketball team opened their season against a tough Lumen Christi squad, falling 51-40. The Mounties started strong creating many turnovers on their press resulting in easy layups. Isaac Dreams scored six of his eight total points with quick hands and easy transition layups. The second quarter was not as kind as the Mounties struggled from the floor and gave up 24 points in the quarter which put them behind 34-21 at halftime. Blake Dalton was strong coming off the bench leading the team in scoring with 13 points on the night. Northwest fought valiantly in the second half but could not get the score to single digits even with a strong fourth quarter performance from Artie, Liam, Jace, and Wyatt. The Mounties travel to Harper Creek on Tuesday for their next game.
The 7th grade boys basketball B team kicked off their season last night with a road trip to Lumen Christi, diving headfirst into a gritty and competitive matchup. Despite a valiant effort, the Mounties came up short, falling 38–27 in a game that remained tight until the final quarter.
From the opening tip, both teams showed early-season energy and determination. Lumen edged ahead 9–5 after the first quarter, but the Mounties clawed back to trail by just two at halftime, 14–12. The third quarter saw the teams trading baskets, with the margin hovering between two and four points. But in the fourth quarter the, Lumen’s defense locked in, holding the Mounties to just three points and sealing the game with an 11-point victory.
Leading the charge for the Mounties was Adam Casanova, who drained two three-pointers and finished with 8 points. Landon Hargon added 7, while Zaiden Shuberg chipped in 5. Rhys Peterson contributed 3 points, and Charlie Peterson, Charter Bynum, and Kendall Hunt each added 2 to round out the scoring.
Though the scoreboard didn’t favor the Mounties this time, the team showed promise and grit—setting the stage for a season full of growth and competitive spirit.
